ODM leader Raila Odinga has congratulated the newly appointed party officials chosen by the Central Management Committee on Friday.
As the party leader, Raila chaired the meeting where the new leadership lineup was announced.
This followed the appointment of Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, and John Mbadi to Cabinet positions.
President William Ruto appointed Mbadi as the CS for National Treasury, Joho as the CS for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, and Oparanya as the Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary.
Joho and Oparanya were previously deputy party leaders, while Mbadi was the national chairman.
To fill the vacant positions, the party selected governors Simba Arati, Abdulswamad Nassir, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi as the new deputy party leaders.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga was chosen to replace Mbadi as the national chairman.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna retained his position as secretary general and party spokesperson.
In a statement on X, Raila expressed his congratulations to the newly proposed officials.
Sifuna added that the Central Committee proposed three names for deputy party leader and made several other appointments, including:
- Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo and Turkana South MP John Ariko as vice chairmen.
- Kajiado East MP Kakuta Maimai as secretary for special programs and social welfare.
- Rahab Robi (Migori CEC) as secretary of publicity and information.
- Rosa Buyu (Kisumu West MP) as secretary for political affairs.
- Ruth Odinga (Kisumu Woman Rep) as deputy organizing secretary.
Sifuna acknowledged the interest from many party members in these positions, He noted.
He encouraged those who missed out on leadership roles, saying there will always be opportunities to contribute to the party.
He also mentioned plans to recommend changes to the party’s constitution to the National Executive Council and the National Governing Council.
