Kisii Governor Simba Arati has made a bold move by urging residents of the larger Gusii region to back President William Ruto.
This call comes in the wake of a significant political shift, as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has entered into a pact with Ruto’s government to form a broad-based administration.
The Kisii region has traditionally been an Opposition stronghold, where ODM leader Raila Odinga enjoys massive support.
However, with the new alliance, Arati is asking his community to give Ruto a chance to fulfill his promises, now that ODM is part of the government.
A New Chapter After Youth-Led Protests
Arati’s appeal follows a turbulent period marked by Gen Z-led protests across the country.
These protests, driven by demands for accountability from Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration, led to the loss of lives, disrupted businesses, and left many injured.
In response to the unrest, President Ruto took the dramatic step of dissolving his entire Cabinet, retaining only Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
In a surprising twist, Ruto then forged an alliance with ODM, bringing in key opposition figures to form a new, broad-based government.
A Call for Unity and Patience
As the de facto spokesperson for the Gusii community, Arati emphasized the importance of unity and patience.
He urged the youth and other leaders to allow Ruto time to deliver on his pre-election promises, especially now that ODM is working alongside the President.

Strengthening Democracy Through a Broad-Based Government
Arati highlighted the importance of democracy, which he believes will be strengthened through the new broad-based government.
He encouraged the Gusii community to solidly back the President, enabling him to deliver on his promises.
Ruto’s new Cabinet includes several former ODM stalwarts, such as Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi, who were some of his fiercest critics before their appointments.
This reshuffle signifies a significant shift in the political landscape, with former opposition figures now holding key positions in the government.
Moving Forward Together
Arati also addressed the ongoing political dynamics within ODM.
He was appointed as one of the ODM deputy party leaders, alongside Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
These changes followed a Central Management Committee meeting chaired by Raila Odinga.
In a show of solidarity, Arati called on leaders to put aside their differences and work together for the betterment of the people.
Arati’s remarks serve as a strong indication that ODM is ready to support Ruto in delivering on his promises.
The new ODM-Ruto alliance marks a new chapter in Kenyan politics, one that could reshape the nation’s future.
