Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot has officially resigned from his position. He announced his decision during a meeting with senior county staff at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret.
His resignation surprised many, especially since he had dismissed rumors about stepping down just a week earlier. Speculation about his departure grew after he missed a significant event where President William Ruto conferred city status to Eldoret.
Governor Jonathan Bii attended the meeting to support Barorot’s announcement. The Deputy Governor explained that he resigned due to a new job opportunity with an international organization, starting on September 1.
Barorot will transition to a role in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. He emphasized the importance of this position amid the global digital transformation.
Barorot expressed gratitude for the collaborative relationship he had with Governor Bii and the county staff over the past two years. He mentioned that discussions about his exit had been ongoing for about a month before the official announcement.
Barorot stated, indicating that his decision was mutually agreed upon and not due to conflict.
Reflecting on his time in public service, Barorot described it as a valuable learning experience. He acknowledged the emotional weight of leaving his position but stressed that change can bring new opportunities.
He reassured attendees that no fallout occurred between him and Governor Bii, countering speculation about their working relationship.
Governor Bii expressed support for Barorot’s decision and announced plans for a send-off party on August 30. He recognized Barorot’s contributions to Uasin Gishu County during his tenure.
