In a decisive action against drug abuse, officials from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) recently destroyed 1,478 kilograms of bhang at the Alupe dumpsite in Busia County.

Also a few days later they arrested two suspects with 456 kilograms of cannabis sativa valued at Ksh 13 million in Mariakani, Mombasa County.

His comments resonate with many who are witnessing the devastating effects of drug abuse in their communities. The agency’s recent raids, including one in Mtwapa where 435 rolls of bhang were seized.
Despite these efforts, critics argue that NACADA has not done enough. A recent report revealed that more than half of the youths abusing drugs are between the ages of 25 and 35.
The prevalence of drug use among university students has also increased, with many young people turning to bhang as a coping mechanism.
