The mysterious death of Evans Chirchir, a National Treasury intern, has taken a new turn.
Police now claim that Chirchir’s death was the result of a road accident, not foul play as initially suspected.
Chirchir went missing on August 31. His family found his body at the Machakos Level 5 Hospital morgue on September 3. This discovery sparked speculation about the circumstances of his death.
Initially, the family suggested foul play. Through their lawyers, they hinted that Chirchir might have been killed over a KSh 286 million tender at the Treasury. However, the National Treasury has strongly refuted these claims.
National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo clarified Chirchir’s role at the institution. He stated,
Kiptoo emphasized that Chirchir was not on official duty when he died. The intern had traveled to Machakos for a private function.
On the night of his disappearance, he was reportedly struck by a vehicle and died on the spot.
The police are currently holding the driver suspected of causing the accident. They maintain that their preliminary investigation points to a road accident as the cause of Chirchir’s death.
Kiptoo strongly denied any connection between Chirchir’s death and his work at the Treasury. He stated,
As the investigation continues, Chirchir’s family and colleagues at the National Treasury mourn his untimely passing.
The truth behind his death may bring closure to those who knew him, while also serving as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life.
