Recent events in Trans Nzoia have seen local artistes disrupt a homecoming show for social media artiste Millicent Ayuwa, popularly known as DEM wa Facebook.
The incident occurred during an event organized by Oga Obinna, where local performers expressed their grievances over the lack of representation and support from the event organizers.
Oga Obinna, a popular comedian and media personality, was the main attraction at the event. However, local artistes were frustrated by the absence of opportunities for local talent to participate in such high-profile events. They felt sidelined, which led to their decision to disrupt the show to voice their concerns.
Local artistes entered the venue and interrupted the proceedings, calling for more inclusion of Trans Nzoia’s talent in future events.
They also accused Obinna for using abusive language by calling them “locals”, which also fueled their frustrations.
They highlighted the importance of supporting local artists, who often struggle to gain visibility and recognition in the entertainment industry. The disruption was both a protest and a plea for better representation.
Additionally, they claimed that the show was being funded by the Governor and the area MP but no slots were left for the local artiste.
One of the Artiste, compared the show to the famous known Churchill show and concluded that Obinna should have included auditions during the preparations of the show.
