The Quiver Steak House in Milimani, Nairobi, has been closed down due to persistent noise pollution that has reportedly disturbed nearby residents.
The closure follows multiple notices issued to the establishment, urging it to soundproof its venue and comply with local noise regulations.
Geoffrey Mosiria, the chief officer of environment for Nairobi City County, highlighted the impact of the club’s noise levels on the surrounding community. Mosiria stated
He emphasized that continuous environmental pollution and disturbances to residents’ peace cannot be tolerated.
The steakhouse’s proximity to significant landmarks, including the Department of Defence and State House, further exacerbated the situation, prompting swift action from county officials.
Presidential Directive
Rodriques Lunalo Mulindi, an aide to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, confirmed that the closure was enacted following a directive from President William Ruto.
This order was issued just before Ruto’s departure for Nyeri on September 15. Mulindi noted that noise levels were indeed disruptive and that despite some initial resistance, the operation to close the club was carried out smoothly with cooperation from the owner.
He added that the owner signed necessary documents before vacating the premises.
The closure of Quiver Steak House has sparked discussions about balancing business operations with community rights.
Residents have expressed their relief at the decision, citing sleepless nights caused by excessive noise from the club.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing regulations that protect residents’ quality of life while allowing businesses to thrive responsibly.
