Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed internal crises within the presidency that have left him feeling disadvantaged and humiliated.
Gachagua implicated operatives at State House Nairobi, accusing them of troubling him as he tries to deliver on his mandate.
During an appeal to President William Ruto, Gachagua reminded him of a vow. Ruto had promised not to allow the denigration Gachagua faced under former president Uhuru Kenyatta, when Ruto himself was humiliated.
However, Gachagua seems wary of troubles surrounding his tenure. He pleaded with the president not to allow his impeachment and to keep his promise. Gachagua said,
Gachagua claimed the president stepped back and allowed state house operatives to trouble him. He suggested these operatives have been fighting him.
The deputy president’s plea comes as the country faces protests against government policies. The protests, led by young Kenyans, forced President Ruto to dismiss most of his cabinet and consult on forming a “broad-based government”.
As the government grapples with the youth revolt and divided administration, Gachagua’s revelations add challenges.
