The 2024 Olympics in Paris have come to a close, and Kenyan marathoner Hellen Obiri has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the nation for their unwavering support.
Obiri, who secured the bronze medal in the Women’s Marathon, was the last member of Team Kenya to compete, helping the country finish the games with an impressive total of 11 medals.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Obiri celebrated her achievement and acknowledged the collective efforts of the entire Kenyan team.
Team Kenya’s medal tally includes four golds, two silvers, and five bronze medals, making the country the top-performing African nation at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Women’s Marathon was a fiercely competitive race, with Ethiopia-born Dutch runner Sifan Hassan breaking the Olympic record to take the gold.
Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa secured the silver medal, finishing just ahead of Obiri.
Following the race, President William Ruto praised Obiri for her determination and resilience, highlighting her embodiment of the Kenyan spirit.
He also congratulated the entire Kenyan team for their outstanding performance. He added,
