Nuru Okanga recently expressed his gratitude to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki for settling his son’s hospital bill. Okanga’s son, diagnosed with kidney failure, had been hospitalized at Kenyatta National Hospital for over three months. Unfortunately, Okanga struggled to pay the accumulated bill, which reached KSh 900,000.
In early August, Okanga sought help from various politicians, including Raila Odinga and Babu Owino. However, he faced challenges in getting assistance. Although Owino wrote to the hospital to request a waiver for the bill, the hospital refused to comply. As the situation became dire, Okanga felt increasingly desperate and turned to well-wishers for support.
On August 12, Kindiki intervened by sending politician Mike Makarena to clear the outstanding bill. Okanga expressed immense relief and joy upon hearing the news. He thanked Kindiki for his generosity, he wrote on his facebook page,
In addition to settling the hospital bill, Kindiki promised to pay an extra KSh 120,000 for further medical analysis of Okanga’s son, which will be conducted in India or South Africa.
