President William Ruto awards Beatrice Chebet KSh 6 million for her outstanding performance. Additionally, she will receive KSh 13 million from World Athletics. Thus, her total Olympic earnings amount to KSh 19 million. Chebet expressed her joy and gratitude.
Beatrice Chebet has made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She became the first Kenyan woman to win gold in the 10,000m event. This adds to her earlier 5,000m victory.
Her remarkable achievement highlights her exceptional talent. Moreover, it positions her as a trailblazer in Kenyan athletics.
On August 9, Chebet clinched the 10,000m gold. Her winning time was 30:43.25. She narrowly edged out Italy’s Nadia Battocletti, who finished in 30:43.35.
Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands took bronze in 30:44.12. Consequently, Chebet became only the third woman in Olympic history to win both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the same Games.
She follows in the footsteps of legends like Tirunesh Dibaba and Hassan herself. She stated,
Chebet’s journey to Olympic glory is particularly inspiring. She made her Olympic debut in Paris. However, prior to these Games, she had already established herself as a formidable competitor.
She had won multiple World Championships medals. Furthermore, she set a world record in the 10,000m earlier this year.
In addition to her Olympic achievements, Chebet has been promoted to Corporal in the Kenya Police Forces. This promotion follows her outstanding performance in Paris. It testifies to her dedication, discipline, and commitment. Chebet excels both as an athlete and a service member.
Chebet expressed joy and gratitude upon her promotion. She remarked,
Chebet attributed her success to several factors. These include hard work, discipline, and unwavering support from colleagues, teammates, and family.
She emphasized the importance of this recognition. It motivates her to continue striving for excellence and making Kenya proud.
