Moses Wetangula, the Speaker of the National Assembly, is facing a lawsuit filed by Isoka Bethwel in the Small Claims Court.
Bethwel alleges that Wetangula failed to pay a Ksh. 281,000 debt related to the supply of two German Shepherd dogs and associated training services.
According to court documents, Bethwel claims he was contracted by Wetangula to supply two male German Shepherd dogs and provide training services. He also provided various dog supplies, including:
- Two packs of dog food
- Four packs of Brave Active dog food
- Dog training sleeves
- Dog leash and choke chains
- Dog grooming brushes
- Dog nail cutter
- Five litres of dog shampoo
- Five litres of kennel disinfectant
Bethwel states he received an initial payment of Ksh. 100,000, but the remaining balance of Ksh. 248,100 remains unpaid despite multiple attempts to recover the money.
He argues that Wetangula has refused to honor the agreement by failing to pay for the dogs and services provided.
The plaintiff asserts that he has made various efforts to reach out to Wetangula to recover the outstanding balance, but claims the Speaker “rudely and adamantly informed me that he would not pay me the remaining balance.” Bethwel further states that the situation has caused him psychological distress and that he stands to lose the remaining balance if the court does not intervene.
As of now, Speaker Wetangula has not publicly responded to the allegations. The case is ongoing in the Small Claims Court, where Bethwel is seeking the court’s assistance to ensure he receives the full payment owed to him.
