In an emotional video, former Director of Press Service at the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Salim Swaleh, has publicly apologized to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi for his alleged involvement in a Ksh 5.8 million fraud case
Swaleh, who previously worked as a journalist for media outlets like NTV, expressed deep regret for breaching the trust between him and Mudavadi.
He acknowledged that Mudavadi has been a father figure to him and that they had built an unmatched trust over the past years.
Swaleh and four others were arrested on June 22, 2024. They were accused of allegedly attempting to defraud foreigners by posing as senior government officials and offering fake promises in exchange for hefty bribes.
The suspects were accused of trying to persuade foreign nationals from Dubai and South Africa to pay a registration fee for a tender to construct two stadiums for the Afcon 2027 games.
The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs confirmed the arrests.
They stated that further investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other conspirators involved in the fraudulent activities.
Swaleh revealed that the past month has been extremely difficult for him since the fraud allegations came to light.
He has been unable to go outside due to the negative publicity surrounding the case.
The former journalist also admitted to battling suicidal thoughts due to his current financial situation.
His salary was abruptly cut off, leaving him unable to pay bills and loans.
