A tragic event unfolded in Kilera village, Meru County, shocking the community. On Saturday afternoon, Jeremiah Kabuora, aged 38, went on a violent rampage.
As a result, he attacked his neighbors with a machete, leaving four people dead. Consequently, angry residents took matters into their own hands and stoned Kabuora to death.
The incident occurred about 10 kilometers from Laare Town. At the time, the victims were tending to their farms.
Suddenly, Kabuora, believed to be mentally challenged, encountered them on the road. Without warning, he began his brutal assault, inflicting deep wounds on his victims.
Igembe North Police Commander Mark Bitok provided details about the attack. He reported that three people died instantly from their injuries.
Later, a fourth victim succumbed to their wounds in the hospital. The hospital admitted another person in serious condition.
As news of the assault spread, local residents quickly gathered. When Kabuora attempted to attack another person near a water point, the crowd intervened.
In a moment of collective anger and fear, they stoned him to death. Consequently, the total death toll rose to five.
Residents revealed Kabuora’s history of violent behavior. In fact, his father avoided the farm where Kabuora lived due to his aggression.
On the day of the incident, Kabuora had an argument with his father. As a result, he was chased from their home.
Among the identified victims were Geoffrey Muriuki Maore, 38, Seberia Mukomaitha, 70, and Regina Micubu, 35. However, the identity of the fourth victim was not immediately available.
Subsequently, the bodies were taken to Maua mortuary for autopsy.
Police have since launched an investigation into this tragic event. Commander Bitok warned locals against taking the law into their own hands. Instead, he emphasized the importance of surrendering suspects to authorities.
