Machakos Governor, Hon. Wavinya Ndeti, is currently stranded abroad after foreign banks refused to allow her to deposit Kenyan funds in their accounts.
According to reliable sources, authorities in the United Kingdom declined the transaction, citing concerns about the legitimacy of the funds.
The situation escalated when Governor Wavinya’s son, Charlie Oduwale, was arrested in possession of Ksh. 679 million.
He was detained after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for how he acquired such a substantial amount of money.
In a bid to resolve the matter, Governor Wavinya informed UK authorities that the funds were meant for the Machakos County Government.
She claimed that the money was earmarked for the construction of a Level 5 hospital for Machakos residents living abroad.
However, the UK authorities remain unconvinced, leading to further complications in her efforts to bank the money.
However, this is not the first time Governor Wavinya has faced challenges banking large sums of money overseas.
She has previously deposited millions in countries such as Dubai, China, and France, raising concerns about the nature and source of these funds.
The incident has sparked outrage among Machakos residents, with many questioning the governor’s actions and the legitimacy of the funds.
Some have even called for her resignation, while others have expressed disappointment in the county’s leadership.
As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Governor Wavinya will resolve the banking dispute and address the concerns raised by the UK authorities.
