Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently disclosed that President William Ruto‘s office removed him from the official WhatsApp group.
This group contains the president’s schedule, making it difficult for Gachagua to track Ruto’s engagements and align his own schedule.
During an interview on Citizen TV, Gachagua explained that he missed recent presidential functions because he no longer received updates.
He urged State House officials to stop suggesting he deliberately skipped events. He stated he would only attend functions where he received formal invitations.
Gachagua noted that the president or his comptroller manages the WhatsApp group. This group regularly updates the president’s itinerary, ensuring real-time coordination of his movements.
Gachagua, along with his private secretary and chief of staff, has been removed from this group.
Although he hasn’t yet discussed this issue with Ruto, he initially considered it petty. However, he decided to address it publicly after noticing “some bloggers in State House trying to insinuate” that he was neglecting his duties.
This revelation highlights ongoing tensions within the presidency. Gachagua previously claimed that some operatives in Ruto’s circle aimed to humiliate him and set him up for trouble.
He urged Ruto to intervene and manage his loyalists, who he believes frustrate him.
As this situation unfolds, it remains unclear how Ruto and his administration will resolve these issues and ensure effective coordination between the president and his deputy.
