Almost two weeks have passed since unknown assailants abducted Wajir County Assembly Member Yusuf Hussein Abdi.
His family and local leaders urgently appeal to the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, for swift action to resolve this case.
Abdi was taken by armed individuals on the night of September 13 while traveling home from South C in Nairobi.
The Incident
On that fateful night, armed men forcibly removed Abdi from a taxi along Enterprise Road. Witnesses reported that the attackers used multiple vehicles to carry out their plan.
The taxi driver, Wambua Kioko, described a terrifying experience where the assailants threatened him and stole his belongings before he reported the incident to the police.
Community Outcry
This abduction has sparked outrage among local leaders and residents. Community member Adan Issack emphasized the need for justice, stating,
We want justice for the abducted MCA
Adan Issack
He called on all Members of County Assemblies across Kenya to unite in solidarity with Abdi’s family. He noted that such acts of violence could happen to anyone.
Prominent figures like Sheikh Hassan Omar from the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya echoed these sentiments.
They demanded clarity on Abdi’s whereabouts and urged authorities to present him in court if he is in custody.
Legal Action
In response to the distress caused by Abdi’s disappearance, his family has filed a petition at the High Court.
They seek intervention from law enforcement and call for the Acting Inspector General of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to locate Abdi or provide information about his situation.
The family’s lawyer argues that his continued absence violates constitutional rights and due process.
The abduction of Yusuf Hussein Abdi raises significant concerns about security and human rights in Kenya.
Leaders point out that if an elected official can be taken without accountability, ordinary citizens are at risk too.
Consequently, calls for action against extrajudicial killings and abductions have intensified. Many urge the government to uphold the rule of law and ensure fair treatment for all citizens under judicial processes.
As pressure mounts on law enforcement agencies to act decisively, the community remains hopeful for a resolution to this troubling incident.
The family of Yusuf Hussein Abdi continues to live in uncertainty and fear for his safety.
Local leaders are committed to advocating for justice until authorities find their colleague and bring him back safely.
